Our first workshop was presented in partnership with the Alliance for Multicultural Community Services Kijana Scholars program. The goal for this workshop and for future workshops is to work with youth and encourage them to tell their stories.
The Kijana Scholars program brings together 20 refugee youth that have all relocated to the US in the last five years, and gives them the tools to succeed in their academics, as well as their personal goals and aspirations.
Yesterday I was a citizen of my country. Today I am a refugee in another country. Tomorrow I will be a dual citizen to the current country.
Yesterday I was very sad. Today I am very happy than yesterday. Tomorrow I will be better than today.
The sentence we used for this specific empowerment template was inspired by Groundwell NYC's mural in New York City.
