Ramzan

Ramzan

Two weeks before Ramzan starts

My mothers cleaning of the house

declares the arrival of Ramzan

As she catch me to clean the parts of house that

she can not climb on

my holidays get occupied

At the Alavi uncles shop

the new dates arrived alone with watermelon from Karnataka

any many other fruits

Fruits shops, Masjid and Madrasa all get ready to welcome the holy month.

Then, the deceleration of new moon arrives

from my local Masjid

That marks the official beginning of it

She want the deceleration comes from Panakkad

as she believes that is the only authentic one

I figure out the places to eat during the day times

though there is not even few places

After I take Suhoor with her

I eat once or twice without she seeing

that ensures my energy for the day

As all of us wait the time to pass

to reach it until the Maghrib call for prayer

My Grand mother takes out the tied dates from the corner of her Lungi

and starts the official Iftar of the day

Then its, a feast along with everyone in the family

As I also cope up with not eating much

occasional fasts and regular fake fasts

We then count the days for Eid al-Fitr

that is the time I get a new dress

I and my two brothers get same color of shirts and pants

out of the money that my mother saves from what she get

As the Ramzan reaches the last weeks

Balloons, cracker and colour full dress materials kept at

Ippu uncles shop welcome the Eid

The crowd that assemble at the village market then after every Ifthar is a celebration

to welcome the Eid

After the 29th Ifthar, the eager waiting of the birth of Eid moon

If the moon comes visible, then Its Eid, Eid al-Fitr

or again one more day of fast
