"I am an Individual"

"I am an Individual"

I want European people to know that it doesn’t matter where I am from, I am a good person.  Sometimes people judge you just because of where you are from but that is not fair. I am an individual. My name is Hicham. I’m from Fez, Morocco. I’m 17 years old. I speak Arabic, English, French, Spanish, and a little Farsi.

My hobbies are magic tricks and hypnosis. I love psychology and science of lightness games – things like optical illusions. I like football (AKA soccer), stand-up comedy, and writing.

When I was a child, I wanted to be famous – a footballer, magician, a superstar. But now, my dream is just to go to England. I want to make a new life that’s not like my life before. I want to be a good, strong person. By strong person, I don’t mean someone with a strong body. I mean someone with many ideas in their mind, always thinking.

If I see someone from England, Scotland, or the USA, I ask them where they are from. When I find out, I speak with them for a long time to learn their mentality and how they think about the world – and also to learn their accent!

I made new goals in my life even though I‘ve had problems in Greece with the Asylum Service. I’ve had some success here. I’ve gotten 5 diplomas in Greece. My goal is to be rich like before so I can bring my mom here and buy her a house. I also want to take her to Saudi Arabia.

My advice is to not be serious when you feel alienated. You have to laugh even when times are difficult. But also, don’t trust the people around you because they might not be who you thought they were.

In the future, I’ll write a book called The Life of a Moroccan Immigrant. It is a book about a young boy who feels alienated, living a difficult life and writing about that experience.  This book will reflect my own experiences as a Moroccan immigrant coming to Europe.

The book will talk about a lot of things: what happened to me, what has been challenging about my life, why I felt alienated, and the bad things that happened to me.

I will write about how I left my mom and my family behind, the problems I had with the police, what I saw in the Moroccan prisons, and what I had to do to leave    my country and go to Turkey. I will also write about the difficulties I have had in trying to make a life for myself in Europe.

I won’t write only about my own story. I will also write about the experiences that my friends from Algeria, Afghanistan, Palestine, Morocco, and other places have had.  Sometimes we were so hungry and had so little that we had to steal food from the markets or even eat out of the garbage.

I will also write about the good things – the nice meals we’ve had and the fun times. The book will be not just bad, not just good, but all of my experiences – just the truth.
