The following is a preview of the Ritsona Kingdom Journal, a youth-run publication developed by young people at Ritsona refugee camp in mainland Greece. The full publication can be viewed here. All views are their own.

The young contributors of the Ritsona Kingdom Journal may come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, but are united in their shared love for creative self-expression. Through art, writing and photography, they’re able to share their stories in an honest and meaningful way.

There has been considerable coverage of the perilous journeys asylum seekers take to arrive in Europe – and the lives they led before they got here – but fewer from the voice and perspective from migrants themselves. Through their work, youth in Ritsona are able to shed light on these very personal experiences. In doing so, they hope to reveal their understanding of what being a refugee truly means – and the many, many other parts of their identity that exist simultaneously.
