Notes from the author:

I recently took a trip to Saint Louis, Senegal and brought my camera with me in hopes to capture the sights of the old capital. What I ended up with was a display of intersectionality; an old fishing town caught between its colonial roots still present in its architecture and an emerging art-tourist hotspot with a newfound sense of modernity. The contrast between the past and present is what I tried to capture in these photos. From the 1970’s era “car rapide” minibuses that, despite nearly falling apart, still roam the streets and serve the people to the contrastingly colorful rows of buildings with balconies reminiscent of the French quarter of New Orleans, to the only clocktower mosque I’ve ever seen. I hope to be back soon.
