My Experience with the Medical System by Emad

In June 2019, I became very ill because of an issue with my left leg and knee. When I was born, the bones did not fuse together correctly, meaning I have one leg that is straighter than the other. This causes me a lot of pain, especially in the winter when it is so cold – I get a horrible pain in my leg and it keeps me awake at night.

When I arrived in Greece, I came to Samos in the middle of the winter, and I must have gone to hospital about 100 times. I was given a crutch to help me walk and I had this crutch for almost 4 months. However, this then caused me to have a new problem in my back.

One day in the Ritsona camp, the pain in my leg was so bad it made me feel sick – I had hardly slept for 5 nights. I managed to get an appointment at the hospital in Chalkida which was set for one month later. I went to the appointment on time on the correct day, but they told me that my appointment was not today and was not on their list. I wasn’t even allowed to go into the hospital to speak to them so I had no choice but to go back to the camp. One of the camp managers with Lighthouse Relief had come with me and witnessed all of this, and how they refused to let me in to talk to them about my appointment, and then they pretended they didn’t speak English when she tried to speak to them and help me which was not true. For this reason, I had to wait another month to get a second appointment. Again, I went to the hospital on the correct day at the correct time, and this time it was ok.

They told me they couldn’t operate on my leg in Greece but maybe in another country. I previously tried to get an operation in Turkey, Iran, and Iraq but they only said there was a chance my leg would improve by 60%. However, I believe this surgery is possible in Germany so I would love to go there and hope they can fix my leg.

If a local person is late for their appointment or doesn’t even go, they are told they are very naughty and shouldn’t do it. If a refugee goes to hospital on time, late, or misses it because something happens, they are judged very badly by the local people and nobody will empathise with them; this is another way refugees, in my opinion, are treated so badly, not just in Chalkida but across Greece and some other countries.

في يونيو 2019 ، أصبحت مريضا جداً بسبب مشكلة في ساقي اليسرى وركبتي. عندما ولدت، العظام لم تندمج معا بشكل صحيح ، مما يعني أن لدي ساق واحد أكثر استقامة من الآخر. هذا يسبب لي الكثير من الألم خصوصاً في الشتاء عندما يكون الجو بارداً جداً. أشعر بألم فظيع في ساقي ويبقيني مستيقظا في الليل. عندما وصلت إلى اليونان ، جئت إلى ساموس في منتصف الشتاء، ولا بد أنني ذهبت إلى المستشفى حوالي١٠٠ مرة. لقد أعطيت عكازاً لمساعدتي في المشي وكان لدي هذا العكاز لمدة ٤ أشهر تقريباً. لكن هذا سبب لي مشكلة جديدة في ظهري.

في يوم من الأيام في مخيم ريتسونا الألم في ساقي كان سيّئاً جداً جعلني أشعر بالمرض. بالكاد نمت لخمسة ليال. تمكنت من الحصول على موعد في المستشفى في خالكيدا والذي تم تحديده بعد شهر.

ذهبت إلى الموعد في الوقت المناسب في اليوم الصحيح ، لكنهم أخبروني بأن موعدي ليس اليوم وأنا لم أكن على القائمة. لم يُسمح لي حتى بالذهاب إلى المستشفى للتحدث معهم لذا لم يكن لدي خيار سوى العودة إلى المخيم. أحد مدراء المخيم مع لايت هاوس جاء معي وشهد كل هذا ، وكيف رفضوا السماح لي في التحدث معهم حول موعدي. ثم تظاهروا أنهم لا يتحدثون الإنجليزية عندما حاولت التحدث معهم لمساعدتي.بسبب هذا ، كان علي أن أنتظر شهراً آخر لأحصل على موعد ثاني. مرة أخرى ، ذهبت إلى المستشفى في اليوم الصحيح في الوقت المناسب، وهذه المرة كان الأمر تماماً.

قالوا لي أنهم لا يستطيعون إجراء عملية على ساقي في اليونان ولكن ربما بلد آخر تقدر. حاولت سابقاً الحصول على عملية في تركيا ، إيران ، والعراق لكنهم قالوا هناك٦٠٪ فرصة فقط أن ساقي سوف يتحسن. ومع ذلك ، أعتقد أن هذه الجراحة ممكنة في ألمانيا لذلك أود أن أذهب إلى هناك وآمل أن يتمكنوا من علاج ساقي.

إذا تأخر شخص محلي عن موعده أو لم يذهب حتى، يقال لهم أنهم أشقياء جدا ولا يجب أن يفعلوا ذلك. إذا اللاجئين يذهبون إلى المستشفى في وقت متأخر ، أو يفتقدوا ذلك لأن شيئا ما يحدث، فالحكم بشكل سيء للغاية من قبل السكان المحليين و لا أحد يتعاطف مع اللاجئين.

هذه طريقة أخرى ، في رأيي ، يعامل اللاجئون معاملة سيئة جداً ليس فقط في خالكيدا ولكن في جميع أنحاء اليونان وبعض البلدان الأخرى.
