The Dead Don't Care
When I was young, my grandfather told me, “Don’t fear death.”
I never I understood my dada. I thought he was being morbid.
But now I realized what he meant.
I do not fear death… because the dead don’t care.
The dead don’t care –
They don’t wage wars upon each other.
They never go to bed worried, staring at the ceiling
wondering when it will end.
The dead don’t care about hope, or love, or justice
and are content with their non-existence.
The dead left their cares to the living.
The dead don’t care.
I don’t care.
Like other men, I fight to live.
And I have found ways to be immortal.
