These Are A Few of Our Favorite Things

The following is a preview of the Ritsona Kingdom Journal, a youth-run publication developed by young people at Ritsona refugee camp in mainland Greece. The full publication can be viewed here. All views are their own.

Youth in Ritsona are more than just refugees – they’re young adults with diverse interests, passions and skillsets. These are often overlooked in traditional reporting on the European refugee situation, rendering some of the most significant characteristics of their personalities virtually invisible. When we fail to understand the many things that make these inspiring young people so dynamic and unique, we miss out on their incredible potential.  

Through the Ritsona Kingdom Journal, youth can share these defining elements of their lives. By writing about everything from their favorite books and recipes to a recent football game they’ve attended, these young people are able to discuss their interests and engage likeminded individuals. When placed in a situation where youth can spend many months and even years in a period of long-term limbo, these opportunities to make new friends and regain a sense of community can make all the difference.
